Mind Over Matter

July 25, 2011 » Posted by Rashida McKenzie

Society will sell you the idea that self-worth comes from superficial standards: cars, clothes, carats and of course the bigger the better. But let’s be honest. If you buy that, you’ll just end of with a bigger chance of being broke.

Trust me, I’ve been there and bought the bag!

If you’re hoping that Gucci will help attract a guy or the Fendi will make you’ll feel better you’ll find yourself unfulfilled, because you can never have enough of what you don’t really need. And, if what you’re after is what society says you should have and not what truly want, it will never satisfy you. You will always be left wanting more.

Instead of settling for the shopping spree, try to figure out where the feelings of dissatisfaction are coming from. Don’t ignore them. Acknowledge them. Those feelings don’t mean that you are worthless; it usually means that at some point you chose to settle for less.

The only reason we settle for the superficial is because deep down inside, we believe we aren’t worthy. You are. As a child of God your worthiness is a given. Feeling it is as simple as shifting your mindset from consumer to contributor. Forget about what you need to get and figure out what you have to give. We were all created to share our gifts with the world and everything you need to create a life you love you already have. Perhaps that’s why the “more” that we’re all looking for can never be found at the store!
